Background information about 'Brace For Impact'

Gun Barrel have never been a band to tiptoe around a good time, and "Brace For Impact" is exactly the kind of title that tells you what you are in for before a single riff lands. The German outfit loads up twelve tracks of greasy, hard-charging heavy metal that smells like spilled beer, worn leather and a stage that has seen better days. There is no pretension here, no grand concept to decode, just a bunch of veterans who clearly still get a kick out of playing loud and fast. Opener "No Survival On Arrival" sets the tone with a stomp that refuses to let up, and by the time the title cut rolls around you have already surrendered to the ride.

What makes this record tick is the sheer joy radiating from every chorus. "Start A Riot", "Stand Your Ground" and "Diamond Bullets" are built for fists in the air and voices gone hoarse by the encore. The band shifts gears nicely too, letting "The Wild Hunt" gallop off into darker territory and closing the regular run with the wonderfully sleazy "Turbölence & Decadence". Then comes the bonus "My Last Quorn", a wink that proves these guys do not take themselves too seriously. It is unapologetic, riff-first heavy metal the way it was meant to be played: loud, sweaty and with a grin.
