Background information about 'Battle Maximus'

Some bands play metal. Gwar are metal, and on "Battle Maximus" they come roaring out of the Antarctic ice like a runaway freight train made of blood, latex and pure riff worship. This is the record where the scumdogs of the universe sharpen every blade they own: the thrash is razor-tight, the solos scream, and the choruses are built to be bellowed by thousands of painted faces at once. The opening "Madness at the Core of Time" sets the tone with a galloping, almost triumphant stomp, while "Bloodbath" and "Nothing Left Alive" hit like a sledgehammer to the ribs. Then there is "I, Bonesnapper" and the title track, both of which sound like a monster truck rally crashing straight through a haunted house.

What makes this album really land is its balance. It is brutal, yes, but it is also genuinely fun, theatrical and absurdly catchy in a way that only this band can pull off. "Mr. Perfect" struts, "Triumph of the Pig Children" sneers, and "Fly Now" closes the whole spectacle on a note that feels almost heroic. This is a band at the peak of their powers, and you can hear every ounce of sweat, spit and showmanship in the grooves.
