Background information about 'Turned To Stone Ch 2: Masamune & Muramasa'

This split release marks chapter two of Ripple Music's ambitious "Turned to Stone" series, presenting an epic tale of two legendary Japanese sword smiths through the lens of heavy psych-metal. Howling Giant and Sergeant Thunderhoof have crafted something truly special here - each band contributing a sprawling 20-minute composition that explores the mythical rivalry between master craftsmen Muramasa and Masamune. The writing process involved both bands sharing melodic ideas, creating an interconnected musical narrative that flows seamlessly between their distinct yet complementary styles.

What makes this release so compelling is how both bands approach the concept from different perspectives while maintaining a cohesive sonic thread. The spacefaring psych-metal warriors Howling Giant bring their trademark cosmic heaviness, while British riff-wielders Sergeant Thunderhoof add their own brand of atmospheric doom-laden progressiveness. Each side tells the story from one sword smith's perspective, creating a musical duel that mirrors the legendary rivalry. The result is ambitious songcraft that pushes the boundaries of what a split release can achieve, showcasing two bands at the peak of their creative powers.
