HUMAN is the long-awaited sophomore album from Jess By The Lake, the solo vehicle of Jasmin Lempinen, formerly of the acclaimed Jess And The Ancient Ones. And let me tell you, this thing hits different. Raw, honest, and utterly uncompromising — this is an album that grabs you by the collar and refuses to let go.
The songwriting process began back in 2019, with the band slowly crafting these songs before entering the legendary Höyrybaari in Lapinlahti, Finland, in the summer of 2023. They recorded live onto magnetic tape — and you can feel it. There's a warmth, a grit, a lived-in quality that digital recording just can't replicate. Produced by Tommi Saikkonen and guitarist Sampo Leksis (who also handled the mix), the record breathes with analog soul. As the title suggests, "HUMAN" revolves around people — their fates, their struggles, the beautiful mess of the human condition. It's heavier than its predecessor, both sonically and emotionally. Lempinen's vision was clear: make it raw, make it real, make it human. And she nailed it.
