Before Immortal became the undisputed kings of Norwegian black metal, they were something entirely different - a raw, uncompromising death metal force that would lay the foundation for one of extreme metal's most legendary careers. "The Northern Upir's Death" captures this pivotal moment in metal history, compiling the band's only self-titled demo from 1991 when they still wielded the brutal darkness of death metal, alongside the infamous self-titled EP from the same year and two scorching rehearsal tracks from 1992.

This isn't just a compilation - it's a time machine back to the primordial chaos that birthed a legend. Every track has been carefully remastered by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony, breathing new life into these ancient recordings while preserving their raw, untamed essence. The transition from death metal brutality to the icy black metal majesty Immortal would become famous for is documented here in all its savage glory, making this an absolutely essential piece of extreme metal archaeology.
