Berlin's death metal maniacs Carnal Tomb have unleashed something absolutely devastating with "Embalmed in Decay", their third full-length that stands as a monument to old school brutality. This is death metal stripped to its putrid core – nine tracks of relentless horror that channel the spirit of the genre's most legendary era while maintaining a distinctly modern edge. The band masterfully balances lightning-fast blast beats with their signature doom-laden passages, creating a sonic graveyard where melody meets mayhem.

What sets this album apart is its literary and cinematic inspiration drawn from H.P. Lovecraft's cosmic horror and classic gore films like Amando de Ossorio's "Tombs of the Blind Dead". The concept explores ancient Italian funeral chambers called putridarium, where corpses were left to decompose in open air – a theme perfectly captured in Skaðvaldur's morbid artwork. From the atmospheric "Intro" through the crushing finale of "Eyes of the Chasm", each track delivers bone-crushing riffs and guttural vocals that would make the old masters proud.
