Background information about 'Monarchy Of Shadows'
Brooklyn's extreme metal powerhouse Tombs delivers another crushing statement with "Monarchy Of Shadows", a relentless assault that showcases the band's evolution into darker, more atmospheric territories. This six-track opus finds the trio pushing their signature blend of black metal fury and post-hardcore intensity to new extremes, creating an album that feels both brutally immediate and hauntingly expansive. The opening title track sets the tone with its cascading tremolo riffs and thunderous rhythmic foundation, while tracks like "Once Falls the Guillotine" demonstrate the band's ability to weave melodic passages through walls of distortion.
The album's second half ventures into even more adventurous terrain, with "The Dark Rift" showcasing Mike Hill's commanding vocal range over intricate guitar work that recalls the best moments of atmospheric black metal pioneers. The closing epic "Path of Totality (Midnight Sun)" serves as a perfect culmination, building from ominous beginnings to a cathartic finale that leaves listeners both exhausted and exhilarated. Tombs has crafted something truly special here - an album that honors their hardcore roots while embracing the cosmic vastness of extreme metal's outer reaches.
