Background information about 'The Northern Upir's Death'
Before Immortal became the frost-bitten black metal legends we worship today, they walked a darker, more death-infused path through the Norwegian underground. "The Northern Upir's Death" captures this pivotal moment in extreme metal history, compiling the band's sole self-titled demo from '91 when they still wielded the brutal weaponry of dark death metal, alongside their infamous self-titled EP from the same year and two rehearsal tracks from '92. This isn't just a compilation – it's archaeological evidence of a band in metamorphosis, documenting the evolutionary bridge between death and black metal supremacy.
Every riff on this collection crackles with the raw intensity that would later freeze into the immortal legacy we know. The remastering by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony brings new clarity to these ancient recordings while preserving their primitive, unforgiving essence. You can hear the seeds of "Pure Holocaust" and "Battles in the North" germinating in these early compositions, making this release absolutely essential for understanding the complete Immortal mythology.
