Background information about 'Ofidians Manifest (Re-Release)'
Kampfar, the stalwarts of Norwegian black metal, return with their 2019 opus "Ofidians Manifest". This album is a masterclass in atmospheric brutality and haunting melodies. From the opening notes of "Syndefall," the listener is dragged into a swirling maelstrom of dark riffs and bone-chilling growls. The intricate guitar work by Ole Hartvigsen combined with the thunderous drums of Ask Ty set a foreboding stage for vocalist Dolk's guttural performance. Adding layers to this sonic tapestry are contributions from guest artists like Agnete Kjølsrud whose ethereal voice punctuates "Dominans."
The album progresses seamlessly through tracks like "Ophidian" and "Natt," showcasing an impressive blend of aggressive tempos and ambient interludes. Each song weaves its own tale, steeped in themes of Norse mythology and existential dread. The closing track "Det Sorte," featuring cello arrangements, encapsulates the band's ability to meld classical elements with extreme metal soundscapes. With "Ofidians Manifest", Kampfar not only solidifies their legacy in the black metal pantheon but also pushes boundaries, delivering a record that is both terrifyingly beautiful and beautifully terrifying.
