KATATONIA return with their masterful 13th studio album Nightmares As Extensions Of The Waking State, proving once again why they remain Sweden's undisputed grandmasters of melancholic heaviness. For over three decades, this Stockholm-based unit has masterfully navigated the tightrope between nocturnal darkness and Scandinavian despair, while subtly weaving hope into listeners' hearts. Founded in 1991 by Jonas Renkse and Anders Nyström as a death metal outlet, KATATONIA have evolved from death/doom pioneers to progressive metal visionaries without ever losing their haunting emotional core.

Nightmares As Extensions Of The Waking State marks a significant new chapter, building upon their acclaimed Sky Void of Stars (2023) while introducing two new guitarists: Nico Elgstrand and Sebastian Svalland. With founding member Jonas Renkse still commanding vocals alongside bassist Niklas Sandin and drummer Daniel Moilanen, KATATONIA deliver crystal-clear production that highlights the interplay between silence and intensity. Tracks like "Thrice" and "Warden" pulse with dynamic energy, while the ceremonial "Wind Of No Change" merges electronic textures with their enigmatic soundscapes. The breathtaking "Efter Solen" features Swedish lyrics evoking Jonas Eika's literary works, while "Temporal" balances fragility and strength with emotionally charged choruses. Even after 35 years, KATATONIA continue redefining the emotional spectrum of progressive metal, effortlessly shifting between haunting vulnerability and commanding artistry.
