Background information about 'ÜL'
ÜL by Mawiza encapsulates a powerful blend of modern groove metal with profound indigenous influences. Rooted deeply in the cultural heritage of the Mapuche Nation's Wallmapu territory, the album serves as an artistic conduit, channeling ancestral chants through a contemporary metal lens. The opening track "Wingkawnoam" sets an industrial groove that evolves into evocative soundscapes rich with scraped riffs and native tongue vocals. Each composition is a tribute to the resilience and connection of the Mapuche people with their environment, highlighted in tracks like "Mamüll Reke" which combines robust grungy bass with flute melodies reminiscent of the Araucanian forest. The album culminates with "Ti Inan Paw-Pawkan," featuring a collaboration with Gojira's Joe Duplantier, symbolizing a collective call to respect all forms of life. The production deftly fuses heavy riffs and indigenous instrumentation, crafting a sound that's both modern and timeless. The vivid narrative unfolds over nine tracks, marked by ritualistic and spiritual themes that resonate well with fans of groove-centric metal with a cultural edge.
