Background information about 'Computer Metal'
There is something deeply satisfying about a record that refuses to behave. Master Boot Record built an entire career on that refusal, and "Computer Metal" is the project's most confident statement yet — a machine-tooled collision of chiptune bleeps, baroque keyboard runs and riffs thick enough to bend a hard drive. The Italian one-man operation has always treated the synthesizer like a guitar and the guitar like a synthesizer, and here that logic reaches full bloom: shredding arpeggios that sound like a MIDI file possessed by a demon, blast-beat programming that hits harder than most human drummers, and melodies that would not be out of place on a late-80s power metal classic.
What keeps it from being a gimmick is the songwriting. These tracks breathe, they build, they resolve — there are genuine hooks buried under the distortion, and the retro-futurist keyboard tones give everything a strange, nostalgic glow. It is heavy, it is playful, and it is completely unbothered by genre boundaries. Whether you came for the metal or for the nostalgia of a dial-up modem screaming into the void, you will leave with the same stupid grin on your face. Turn it up loud and let the machine take over.
