Master Boot Record is the kind of project that makes you grin before the first riff even lands. A one-man operation built on the idea that baroque keyboards, chiptune grit and full-throttle heavy metal belong in the same room, Computer Metal is exactly what the title promises: a machine-tooled assault where harpsichord runs trade blows with palm-muted riffing and the drum programming hits like a server rack falling down a stairwell. It is gloriously over the top, and it knows it.
What keeps it from being a gimmick is the sheer craft underneath the concept. The synth lines are genuinely virtuosic, weaving counterpoint around the guitars the way a classical composer would, while the low end stays punishing throughout. Tracks build and release with real dramatic instinct, and the whole record has a cold, neon-lit atmosphere that feels like wandering a data centre at 3 a.m. with the lights off. It is loud, it is strange, and it is enormous fun.
