Background information about 'Savage Imperial Death March'
Two of heavy music’s most uncompromising forces finally collide head-on: Melvins and Napalm Death join ranks for “Savage Imperial Death March”, a full-blown collaborative album where both bands play on every single track. Originally released in a severely limited run through AmRep in 2025, this expanded edition adds two bonus tracks, brandnew artwork by Mackie Osborne, and fresh vinyl variants – making it available in record stores for the very first time. What you get is a filthy collision of sludge-drenched riffs, blast-beat fury, and the kind of warped creativity that only these two could cook up together. Buzz Osborne’s trademark tar-thick guitar tone grinding against Barney Greenway’s inhuman vocal assault creates something genuinely unhinged.
Forget everything you think you know about split records or side projects – this is the real deal. Forty-plus years of combined experience in pushing boundaries, and neither band has any interest in playing it safe. “Savage Imperial Death March” is a beast of an album that lurches between crushing doom passages, chaotic grind blasts, and moments of genuinely eerie atmosphere. The Melvins have been fusing punk and heavy music since 1983, while Napalm Death have been the gold standard of fearless extremity since the mid-‘80s. Together, they sound like the end of the world – and it’s glorious.
