Background information about '9'
When Mercyful Fate unleashed "9" in 1999, they delivered what would become their final statement for two decades – a crushing testament to their mastery of occult metal. This seventh studio offering finds King Diamond and his Danish compatriots at their most ferocious, combining the theatrical darkness that made them legends with a newfound brutality that hits like a sledgehammer to the soul.
The album opens with "Last Rites" and immediately establishes its heavier, more direct approach while never abandoning the intricate melodies and supernatural storytelling that defined their legacy. Tracks like "Sold My Soul", "Burn in Hell", and the haunting "Kiss the Demon" showcase a band that had evolved beyond their early pioneering work into something even more menacing. The production captures every nuance of their occult majesty, from King Diamond's trademark falsetto wails to the razor-sharp guitar work that influenced countless metal acts.
For fans of:
King Diamond, Celtic Frost, Bathory, Venom, Candlemass
