Mutoid Man absolutely crushed it with their 2015 debut full-length "Bleeder". This isn't just another supergroup throwing their names around -the trio formed by Cave In's Stephen Brodsky and Converge's Ben Koller (completed by bassist Nick Cageao) delivers what might be the best heavy debut album of 2015.While their 2013 EP "Helium Head" was raw and convulsive, "Bleeder" takes a more polished approach with clearer separation between the gnarled instrumentation and Brodsky's vocals.Sonically, the album contains influences of speed and thrash metal, early hardcore punk, rock'n'roll, NWOBHM, sludge metal, stoner rock, and psychedelic rock- basically everything that makes your heart race and your head bang.At just 29 minutes long with nothing going to waste, the album's longest song clocks in at 3:11 (except for the nearly six-minute title track).These are short bursts of musical ideas, too hectic and chaotic to sustain for much longer.Mutoid Man combines Koller's spastic drum work with Brodsky's knack for melodies and riffs, resulting in music that sounds like it was made by completely insane people - and surprisingly, Brodsky can actually shred.Combined with production by Koller's Converge bandmate Kurt Ballou, the result is a ridiculously huge-sounding record with tons of low frequencies and hyper-aggressive drum tones."Bleeder" might not melt your face off, but it will definitely burn it.
