Background information about 'Onyx'
Twenty years after its initial release, Nocternity's groundbreaking opus "Onyx" returns in a spectacular anniversary edition that reminds us why this Greek black metal masterpiece remains utterly essential. This isn't just another reissue – it's a complete archaeological dig into one of the most influential albums to emerge from the Hellenic extreme metal scene. The original "Onyx" was already a towering achievement, blending atmospheric black metal with an almost ritualistic intensity that set Nocternity apart from their contemporaries.
What makes this boxset absolutely thrilling is the inclusion of the previously unreleased alternate rough mix version, complete with different tracklist and artwork. It's like discovering a parallel universe version of an album you thought you knew inside out. The raw, unpolished nature of this alternate mix reveals the primal essence of Nocternity's vision, offering fans a glimpse into the creative process behind this monumental work. Both versions showcase the band's mastery of creating dense, hypnotic soundscapes that transport listeners into realms of ancient darkness and mystical contemplation.
