Background information about 'Galdersång Till Bergfadern'

Before Otyg became a name whispered in folk metal circles, there was a tape recorded in 1997 that almost nobody got to hear. "Galdersång Till Bergfadern" is that tape, the third and final demo, and it captures a band on the verge of discovering its own voice. The fiddles and flutes weave around guitars with a looseness that feels alive, almost reckless, and you can practically smell the rehearsal room. What makes this so fascinating is hearing ideas that would later bloom on the Älvefärd full-length, only here they arrive rawer, stranger, more untamed.

Remastered in 2025 by Vintersorg from the original tapes, this reissue doesn't sand down the edges. Instead it gives these recordings the clarity they always deserved while keeping that rough, windswept charm. The melodies are ancient-sounding, the rhythms restless, and the whole thing carries the weight of Scandinavian folklore without ever feeling like a museum piece. This is where the roots of violin, flute and lute first tangled with guitar and voice in a way only Otyg could pull off. Essential listening for anyone who wants to trace where this sound came from.
