Background information about 'Under The Influence'
Released in 1988, "Under The Influence" stands as Overkill's third studio album and arguably one of their most ferocious statements in the thrash metal pantheon. This beast of a record showcases the band at their most unhinged, delivering nine tracks of pure sonic aggression that helped cement their reputation as one of the East Coast's most relentless thrash outfits. From the opening assault of "Shred" to the epic title track "Overkill III (Under The Influence)", the album maintains a breakneck pace that never lets up, with Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth's distinctive vocals cutting through the mix like a razor blade.
The production on "Under The Influence" captures Overkill in their rawest form, with tracks like "Hello From The Gutter" and "Mad Gone World" showcasing the band's ability to blend technical prowess with pure unbridled energy. The rhythm section of D.D. Verni and Rat Skates provides a thunderous foundation for the guitar work, while songs like "Brainfade" and "Drunken Wisdom" demonstrate the band's knack for crafting memorable hooks within their chaotic framework. This reissue on yellow marbled vinyl gives new life to these classic tracks, allowing both longtime fans and newcomers to experience the album's raw power in all its analog glory.
