Background information about 'The Time Lord'
Originally recorded back in 1978-79, "The Time Lord" represents Pagan Altar's earliest and most primal recordings, capturing the band at their most raw and atmospheric. Two of these flawlessly executed tracks emerge from a professional 24-track recording session, while the rest of the album presents early, haunting versions of songs that would later be re-recorded for "Judgement of the Dead". What makes this collection truly special is the inclusion of a long-lost, never-before-heard version of "Night Rider" from the same era, offering fans a glimpse into the band's formative creative process.
This is pure doom metal sorcery at its most authentic - Pagan Altar channeling their mystical energy through primitive recording techniques that somehow enhance rather than diminish the power of their vision. The atmospheric quality of these early recordings creates an almost ritualistic listening experience, where every guitar riff and vocal line feels like an incantation. The band's ability to craft such compelling doom metal compositions during the late 70s demonstrates their pioneering role in the genre's development.
For fans of: Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Witchfinder General, and Saint Vitus
