Background information about 'Steineiche'
The enigmatic Swiss black metal project Paysage d'Hiver delivers another mesmerizing journey into the frozen wilderness with "Steineiche". This haunting opus stands as a testament to Wintherr's unparalleled ability to craft atmospheric black metal that transcends conventional boundaries. The album's three sprawling compositions unfold like chapters in a mystical forest tale, each track building upon ancient Germanic folklore and nature mysticism that has become the project's signature.
"Steineiche" showcases Paysage d'Hiver at their most refined yet primal state. The production maintains that characteristic lo-fi aesthetic while allowing every tremolo-picked melody and blast beat to cut through the mix with crystalline clarity. Wintherr's vocals drift between tortured shrieks and hypnotic chants, weaving seamlessly through layers of repetitive yet evolving guitar work that creates an almost trance-like state. The album's conceptual focus on oak trees as sacred entities connects deeply with pre-Christian European spirituality, making this essential listening for anyone seeking black metal that goes beyond mere aggression to touch something genuinely transcendent.
