Background information about 'Crimen Laesae Majestatis Divinae'

PORTRAIT returns with Crimen Laesae Majestatis Divinae, a release that doesn't just knock on the door of traditional heavy metal—it kicks it down with the force of a medieval siege engine. Released in 2011 via Metal Blade Records, this album is a masterclass in epic, atmospheric heavy metal that draws deeply from the well of classic NWOBHM and early doom influences, yet stands firmly on its own formidable shoulders. The band doesn't rely on speed for the sake of adrenaline; instead, they craft a soundscape that is vast, brooding, and incredibly immersive. From the opening riff of Beast Of Fire, you are transported to a realm where honor, battle, and dark fantasy collide. The production is crisp enough to hear every nuance of the guitar work, yet heavy enough to rattle your ribcage. It’s a record that demands to be listened to from start to finish, allowing the narratives within each track to unfold naturally. The chemistry between the musicians is palpable, creating a cohesive unit where every instrument serves the song’s grandeur. This isn't background music; it’s a journey into the heart of darkness and glory. PORTRAIT has managed to capture the spirit of the old school while delivering a modern sonic punch that feels timeless. If you crave metal that tells a story and respects its roots, this is essential listening.
