Background information about 'Against'

"Against" is the sound of a band planting its boots firmly in the ground and refusing to move. RAM have always dealt in that very specific Swedish tradition of heavy metal — the kind built on galloping twin guitars, a rhythm section that hits like a hammer on an anvil, and a singer who sounds like he has been gargling gravel and thunder for a living. What makes this record such a joy is how unapologetically old-school it is without ever feeling like a museum piece. Every riff lands with intent, every chorus arrives with the raised fist already in the air, and the whole thing moves with the momentum of a runaway train that nobody thought to put brakes on.

There is a wonderful physicality to the playing here. The guitars bite and snarl, trading off leads with the easy confidence of people who have spent decades sharing a stage, while the drums push everything forward at a pace that never quite lets you catch your breath. It is the sort of album that reminds you why you fell in love with this music in the first place — no gimmicks, no filler, no attempt to chase whatever trend is currently fashionable. Just steel, sweat and songs that sound like they were forged rather than written. Put the needle down, turn it up, and let it hit you square in the chest.
