Background information about 'Against'
There is a certain kind of heavy metal that doesn't ask for permission, and "Against" by RAM is exactly that record. The Swedish crew has always played by their own rules, and here they sharpen every blade they have: galloping twin-guitar riffs, a rhythm section that pushes forward like a runaway tank, and those gloriously gritty vocals that sit somewhere between a snarl and a war cry. It's classic heavy metal in the truest sense, built on the shoulders of the greats but never reduced to mere imitation. Every chorus lands with the kind of conviction you can't fake, and every solo feels like it was carved out of steel.
What makes this album so thrilling is the balance. RAM know when to go for the throat and when to let a song breathe, and that restraint makes the loud moments hit even harder. The production keeps things raw and punchy without ever sounding muddy, so the details, the little harmonic twists, the sudden tempo shifts, all come through loud and clear. It's the sound of a band that has spent years honing their craft and now simply lets it rip. Put the needle down, turn it up, and let the whole thing roll over you.
