Background information about 'Passage To Arcturo'
In 1991, ROTTING CHRIST unleashed their first EP 'Passage to Arcturo', a seminal release that laid the groundwork for their distinctive sound characterized by thunderous riffs and atmospheric darkness. The EP is a raw embodiment of black metal's early, feral energy, drawing influence from titans such as Bathory and Celtic Frost while forging a unique path infused with Greek mysticism and diabolic themes.
This reissue by Season of Mist brings back an essential piece of extreme metal history, showcasing tracks like 'Old Coffin Spirit' and 'The Nereid of Esgalduin,' which echo the band's relentless pursuit of musical evolution. With its archaic production and haunting melodies, 'Passage to Arcturo' remains a vital listen for those tracing the lineage of black metal's evolution.
