Background information about 'Down'

There is a moment on "Down" where the Finnish winter stops being weather and becomes a state of mind. Sentenced had already walked a long road from death metal beginnings toward something far more melodic and wounded, and on this, their fourth full-length, they arrived at a sound that feels like a farewell letter written in frost. Originally released in 2003, the record carries that strange, gorgeous tension between huge, hook-laden choruses and a deep, unshakeable melancholy. The guitars shimmer and bite in equal measure, the rhythm section drives with real weight, and the clean, almost anthemic vocal lines sit right on the edge of despair without ever tipping into parody. It is gothic-tinged heavy metal with a beating, aching heart, and it still hits like a cold wind through an open window.

What makes "Down" so rewarding is how confidently it refuses to choose between beauty and heaviness. Songs build patiently, then open up into refrains that you will hum for days, and the production keeps everything crisp and spacious enough for the details to breathe. This 2024 repress on Cosmic Key Creations, issued under exclusive license from Century Media Records, gives the album the physical treatment it deserves: a high gloss jacket, a black flood inside, a double-sided insert and a mastering cut specifically for vinyl. Put the needle down, let the first notes settle, and the whole thing unfolds like a story you thought you knew but hear for the first time.
