Background information about 'Quadra'
There are albums that mark a new chapter, and then there are albums that feel like the entire book being rewritten. Sepultura's Quadra is exactly that — a ferocious, intelligent, and deeply emotional statement from a band that has absolutely nothing left to prove. Released in 2020, this record sees the Brazilian legends channeling decades of rage, groove, and experimentation into a tightly-woven concept album about the four sides of the human psyche: reason, instinct, chaos, and the unknown.
From the crushing opener "Isolation" to the haunting closer "Fear; Pain; Chaos; Suffering," Quadra is a masterclass in modern thrash metal that refuses to be boxed in. Tracks like "Last Time" and "Capital Enslavement" hit with the kind of neck-snapping aggression that defined their classic era, while "Ali" and "The Pentagram" bring in tribal rhythms, orchestral layers, and progressive twists that feel utterly natural. Green and Derrick Green deliver some of their most commanding performances here — raw, political, and deeply human. This is Sepultura firing on all cylinders, honoring their legacy while pushing forward into bold new territory.
