Background information about 'Ørlog'
SKÁLD return with "Ørlog", their first release for Napalm Records and a record that feels like stepping through a misty gateway into an ancient, untamed world. The title translates to fate or destiny, and that's exactly what this album is about — the threads the Norns weave, the choices we make, and the consequences that echo through time. With ten new songs as stepping stones, "Ørlog" invites you to listen, linger, and reflect on something within yourself you may not have recognized before. These aren't just songs; they're old chants given new breath.
Long regarded as pioneers of the neofolk genre, SKÁLD have crafted something truly immersive here. The respect they show for their source material is palpable — old spirits are honored, ancient melodies are reshaped, and the result is a captivating world all its own. The language may feel unfamiliar to some ears, but the music speaks directly to the soul. From the haunting opener to the closing echoes, "Ørlog" carries a weight that feels both timeless and deeply personal. It's a record that rewards patience, revealing new layers with every listen, and standing as a powerful statement from a band at the height of their creative powers.
