Background information about 'In Lack Of Clarity'
There is something deeply satisfying about a record that refuses to hand you its secrets on the first spin. Sonic Moon deal in exactly that kind of slow-burning pleasure on "In Lack Of Clarity", an album that pulls you down into thick, fuzzed-out low end and then keeps you there, warm and slightly disoriented, until the last groove runs out. The riffs are heavy but never dumb, riding a groove that owes as much to classic stoner rock as it does to the murkier corners of doom, and every time you think you have the song figured out, the band slides sideways into a passage that catches you off guard.
What really sells it is the atmosphere. The guitars are drenched and dusty, the rhythm section locks in with that unhurried, almost hypnotic swing, and the vocals sit just far enough back in the mix to feel like another instrument rather than a spotlight hog. It is the sound of a band that trusts its own instincts, letting tracks breathe instead of cramming in one more chorus. Play it loud on a decent stereo and the whole thing opens up, revealing layers of texture you simply will not catch on a laptop speaker.
Fans of the heavier end of the psychedelic spectrum will find plenty to love here, and the solid white vinyl pressing looks every bit as striking as the music sounds. This is one to file next to your favourite late-night headphone records.
