Background information about 'I Am Woman'
There is something gloriously unhinged about a band that looks like a glitter-drenched disco army and plays like they just crawled out of a sweaty basement show, and Tragedy have turned that contradiction into a career. On "I Am Woman" the New Yorkers take the biggest, boldest anthems ever written for and by women and run them through a wall of harmonized guitars, thundering drums and falsetto howls. It should be a gimmick. Instead it is a party you never want to leave.
The tracklist reads like a jukebox that has been possessed: "I Will Survive", "She Bop", "Flashdance... What a Feeling", "Respect", "Venus", "Roar". Every one of them gets the full metal-disco treatment, riffs stacked on top of grooves, choruses stretched until they glow. The band never winks at the source material — they bow down to it, then blow it up. There is real musicianship under all the sequins, and the joy is completely contagious.
For fans of: Steel Panther, The Darkness, Tenacious D, Turbonegro, KISS
