Background information about 'Trial By Fire'
Self-titled records are usually where a band lays all its cards on the table, and Trial By Fire do exactly that with this one. Seven tracks, no filler, no padding — just a rhythm section that locks in tight and guitars that keep circling back for one more jab. "Night Journey" opens the whole thing like a door being kicked in, all forward motion and restless energy, and by the time "Requiem" stretches out past the eight-minute mark you realise these guys are not in a hurry to impress anyone. They would rather let a riff breathe, let a groove settle, and let the listener lean in closer.
There is something wonderfully old-school about the way this album breathes. "Eastern Sun" brings a bit of heat and swing into the mix, "Against The Night" rides a darker, more brooding pulse, and "Broken Flag" clocks in under three minutes as a sharp, no-nonsense punch to the ribs. Then comes "Chasing The Dragon", which might be the most addictive thing here, before "Eclipse" closes the record on a note that feels like the last embers of a long night. It is heavy metal played by people who clearly grew up on the classics but still have their own fire burning, and that combination is exactly why this one keeps finding its way back onto the turntable.
