Background information about 'Substrate Haruspex'

Velnias return with their fourth studio album, "Substrate Haruspex", and it is an absolute monster of atmospheric folk doom. Recorded in 2024 between Denver's World Famous Studios and Nederland's Tvirtove in Colorado, this record feels like a slow, deliberate excavation of the self. Eight monumental tracks unfold like ancient invocations, each one peeling back layers of delusion and confinement until only the raw, burning core remains. There is a weight to this music that is hard to shake, a dense and brooding atmosphere that settles over you like cold mountain fog.

The production is handled by Stephen Parker (Maestus, Pillorian, Paraphilia) on mixing duties, while Greg Chandler (Esoteric) took care of the mastering. Together they give "Substrate Haruspex" a sound that is both cavernous and razor sharp, letting every crushing riff and every fragile, folk-tinged passage breathe with intent. This is Velnias at their most confident, weaving their signature blend of iconoclastic folk doom into something that feels timeless and utterly their own. For anyone who has followed their evolution from the early days, this record is the sound of a band fully coming into their own power, standing tall beneath the vastness of an infinitely unfolding cosmos.
