Background information about 'Dominator'
Dominator is W.A.S.P. doing what they have always done best: turning sleaze, fire and melodrama into anthems that hit like a fist wrapped in velvet. Blackie Lawless sounds like a man who has stared down every demon he ever invited in, and instead of flinching he built a record out of the wreckage. The guitars are thick and theatrical, the choruses arrive like a curtain dropping, and there is a genuine sense of menace running underneath the hooks. It is heavy metal as grand guignol, and nobody stages that show with more conviction.
What makes this one stick is the songwriting. "Mercy" opens with a strut that could level a small town, "Take Me Up" rides a riff that refuses to leave your skull, and "Heaven's Hung In Black" is the kind of slow-burning epic that reminds you these guys were never just shock value. There is grit, there is swagger, and there is that unmistakable Lawless rasp cutting through every chorus. Play it loud enough and the neighbours will either complain or convert.
For fans of: Twisted Sister, Motley Crue, Judas Priest, Dio, Skid Row
