Background information about 'Å'

Wormwood have been on an absolute tear, and this new EP "Å" feels like the next logical, yet gloriously unhinged step in their evolution. The Stockholm outfit has always excelled at threading that needle between sheer metallic aggression and cinematic, almost meditative atmosphere — and here, they lean even harder into both extremes. The title itself, "Å" — the Swedish word for a small river or stream — is a perfect metaphor for what's happening sonically: there's a constant sense of movement, of currents pulling you between crushing blastbeats and moments of eerie, folk-tinged calm that wouldn't feel out of place in a Nordic noir film score.

The production, once again helmed by the mighty Sverker Widgren at Wing Studios, is nothing short of stunning. Every layer breathes — the guitars have that razor-sharp bite, the drums hit with organic thunder, and the vocals carry an emotional weight that transcends the usual extreme metal tropes. Wormwood have this rare ability to make you feel like you're standing in a windswept Scandinavian landscape, even as the riffs pummel you into the ground. The two tracks here — "Yra / Extas" and "Purposeless Geometry" — clock in as a perfectly concise statement of intent, showcasing a band that knows exactly who they are while refusing to sit still creatively. The melancholic melodies intertwine with raw rock energy in a way that feels both timeless and utterly fresh.
