Background information about 'II: Sojourn'
II: Sojourn by Wytch Hazel continues to assert the band's distinctive blend of melodic heavy metal infused with traditional rock elements. The album unfolds as a conceptual journey divided into two thematic acts: 'The Plight' and 'The Victory'. Richly layered guitars intertwine with Colin Hendra's expressive vocals, while the infusion of organ, piano, and violin adds an unexpected depth and texture to the compositions. Recorded and mixed at Hand Of Law Studios, the album exemplifies a meticulous production quality that complements the evocative songwriting.
The record's narrative and musical ambition align it with a lineage of classic metal and progressive rock, drawing favorable comparison to bands like Judas Priest and early Iron Maiden, yet Wytch Hazel's folk influences and lyrical themes carve out a unique niche. The inclusion of elements such as the haunting instrumental 'Chorale' and the emotionally resonant 'Angel Take Me' reveal the group's flair for creating immersive atmospheres. This release solidifies Wytch Hazel's position in the contemporary heavy metal scene as torchbearers of a vintage yet fresh sound.
