What strikes you first is how effortlessly the band glides between moods. Of Fly And Bird and Down Down carry that breezy, sun-dappled indie-rock charm, while Faintheart and Neon Coloured stretch out into something more spacious and cinematic. The real highlight, though, is the staggering Give All Up — nearly seven minutes of slow-burning melancholy that pays off in one of the most satisfying crescendos on any debut of its era. And then there's A Thousand, an eight-and-a-half-minute closer-in-spirit that lets the whole thing breathe before Black Magic wraps it up with a wink and a grin.

Yasmine Tourist sound like a band that grew up on classic songwriting and never lost the joy of simply playing together. There's a looseness, a human warmth here that no amount of studio polish can fake. It's the kind of record you put on for one song and end up playing twice through.
