Background information about 'Winter Mass'
1349 have spent three decades perfecting the art of sonic warfare, and "Winter Mass" stands as blazing proof that their hellfire burns brighter than ever. This isn't just another live album – it's a testament to why these Norwegian black metal titans remain untouchable in their craft. Captured at Oslo's Parkteatret shortly after the pandemic lifted, this recording crackles with the raw electricity of a band reconnecting with their devoted legion.
From the moment "Enter Inferno" ignites the proceedings, you're thrust into a maelstrom of blistering chaos that spans 1349's entire career. Early destroyers like "Sculptor of Flesh" unleash their trademark madness with unhinged ferocity, while newer cuts such as "Striding the Chasm" demonstrate that their creative fire remains unquenched. The crowd's energy is palpable throughout, particularly during the apocalyptic "I Am Abomination" where Ravn's declaration "I will always be here" feels less like a threat and more like an eternal promise. Cover artist Kim Diaz Holm perfectly captured this intensity, literally drawing the artwork while headbanging in the pit – now that's dedication to the craft!
