Background information about 'Verwüstung / Invoke The Dark Age'
Abigor's 1994 debut "Verwüstung" stands as a monument to Austrian black metal's golden era, capturing lightning in a bottle during the scene's most explosive period. This isn't just another early '90s black metal record – it's a masterwork that showcases adolescent fury channeled through sophisticated songwriting that rivals any classic from the era. While sometimes overshadowed by the impact of "Nachthymnen (From The Twilight Kingdom)", "Verwüstung" actually displays even more variety and emotional depth, from the demonic assault of "Kingdom Of Darkness" to the atmospheric grandeur of "Midwintertears".
The album benefits from Silenius delivering perhaps his most powerful vocal performance ever recorded, never again reaching these heights of malevolent intensity. For the first time, DSR presents this classic with the original 1994 cover collage, housed in a deluxe gatefold with extensive liner notes, rare photos, and interviews with key figures from the tape-trading underground that birthed this masterpiece. The vinyl has been cut true to the original Hörnix Studio master, ensuring the rawest possible sound experience.
