Background information about 'Deprived of Afterlife'

Before Abramelin became a name whispered with reverence in the Australian extreme metal underground, there was Acheron — a Melbourne outfit that burned briefly but left scorch marks. "Deprived of Afterlife" gathers every studio recording the band ever laid down, and it's a time capsule straight out of the early '90s, when death metal was still a young, hungry beast and nobody had figured out the rules yet.

You can hear the ambition in every ragged riff. The 1992 promo demo kicks things off with a gloriously raw take on the genre — "Final Biopsy", "Malicious Genocide", "Relish the Blood" and "Human Abbatoir" all gnash and churn with that loose, restless technicality of a group still discovering its own voice. Then comes the title EP, the one French label Corpsegrinder Records put out in 1991 to give the band a foothold beyond their home shores. Its intro rolls in like fog off the bay before "Deprived of Afterlife" and "Death of Millions" drag you down into the murk. The "Eternal Suffering" demo rounds things out, five tracks of primeval, atmospheric death metal that still hits like a sledgehammer.

This is the sound of a band sharing stages with Carcass, Morbid Angel and Pungent Stench and holding their own. Old school to the bone, dark as pitch, and absolutely essential for anyone who digs through the genre's forgotten corners.
