The album's conceptual framework draws heavily from maritime literature and deep-sea exploration, with tracks like "Prof. Arronax's descent into the vast oceans" and "Mobilis in mobili" paying homage to Jules Verne's classic Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.

The sonic landscape Ahab creates here is both crushing and beautiful, with massive, droning guitar passages that seem to stretch endlessly like ocean horizons.
