Background information about 'Nightfloating'
This haunting collection from Forgotten Tomb delivers another crushing chapter in their evolution of atmospheric black metal darkness. "Nightfloating" showcases the Italian masters at their most introspective and devastating, weaving together the band's signature blend of depressive black metal with doom-laden passages that feel like drifting through an endless void. The opening title track sets the tone perfectly, with its hypnotic rhythms and ethereal guitar work creating an almost trance-like state that pulls listeners into the band's nocturnal world.
The album's six tracks explore themes of isolation, mental anguish, and existential dread with the kind of emotional weight that has made Forgotten Tomb legends in the underground scene. Songs like "This Sickness Withered My Heart" and "A Despicable Gift" showcase the band's ability to balance crushing heaviness with moments of surprising beauty, while tracks like "Drifting" live up to their titles with sprawling, atmospheric compositions that feel like sonic journeys through psychological landscapes. The production captures every nuance of the band's performance, from the raw power of the heavier sections to the delicate melancholy of the quieter moments.
For fans of: Shining, Lifelover, Katatonia, Burzum, and Bethlehem
