Throughout history, women have often borne heavier burdens during times of need. On their tenth album, "Ruby Red," the San Francisco-based quartet Amber Asylum poignantly reflects on turbulent times. The four musicians blend instrumental passages with evocative lyrics, merging laments and introspective sorrow with powerful songwriting that evokes both despair and hope. The album oscillates between dark themes such as pain, loss, empowerment, and mortality. Amber Asylum creates intense soundscapes that are both primal and introspective.

"Ruby Red" consists of classical strings, bass, drums, percussion, modular synthesizers, and female voices. Musically, Amber Asylum balances driving neoclassical elements against the raw power of pounding basses and drums, which generate a strong rhythmic impact that contrasts excellently with the more contemplative strings on "Ruby Red." Bass and drums create a constant pulse that forms the foundation of the songs and adds intensity and depth to the album's darker moments. Founded by composer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Kris Force in San Francisco in 1990, Amber Asylum has continuously reinvented itself musically over the years.
