AMON AMARTH · The Allfather Awakens | SPLATTER LP

Remains of the slain splatter vinyl, gatefold sleeve, 180g vinyl. Limited to 500 copies. Scandinavian exclusive edition

Background information about 'The Allfather Awakens'

Thirteen albums in and Amon Amarth still swing the hammer like men half their age. "The Allfather Awakens" is ten tracks of the band's trademark melodic death metal — those granite-heavy riffs, the twin-guitar harmonies that soar over the carnage, and Johan Hegg's roar cutting through like a longship through fog. What makes this one special is the pacing: written on the road and recorded in two separate sessions with producer Jacob Hansen in Denmark, the Swedes built it one song at a time, and you can hear it. Every track gets room to breathe, every chorus lands like it was designed to be a single.

The highlights come thick and fast. "Gjallarhorn" opens the gates with that horn call and a riff that could level a village, while "Eight Legs of Thunder" is pure battle anthem — the kind of thing you'll be shouting back at festivals for years. But the real curveball is "Upphaf", the first acoustic song in the band's entire career, drawn from a verse of the Völuspá. It's a quiet, strange, genuinely beautiful moment that shows these veterans still have surprises in the tank. Elsewhere, "Kvasirs Blood" and "Odens Hunt" bring the mythic storytelling that has always been their beating heart.

This Sound Pollution edition comes on splatter vinyl in a gatefold sleeve, pressed on 180g wax and limited to 500 copies. For anyone who has followed the Vikings from their early days, this is essential — and for newcomers, it's a hell of an entry point.
