Background information about 'Tranceformation'
There is something almost ritualistic about the way Anomalie build their songs. On "Tranceformation" the Austrian collective doesn't just play black metal — they let it breathe, stretch and dissolve into something far stranger. The album unfolds across six movements, all of them tied to the word "Trance", and that is no gimmick. Each piece feels like a step deeper into a haze, guitars circling in hypnotic patterns while the rhythm section pushes forward with a patient, almost meditative weight. It is the kind of record that rewards you for sitting still and letting it wash over you.
What makes this one stick is the balance. There is plenty of frost and fury here, the trademark bite of the genre, but Anomalie never let aggression become the whole story. Melodies rise out of the murk like light through fog, clean passages interrupt the storm, and the vocals shift between a rasp and something closer to a chant. By the time the closing stretch arrives you realise you have been led somewhere, not just bludgeoned. It is ambitious, atmospheric and genuinely moving — black metal that thinks about where it is going.
