Desaster

Since 1989, Germany's Desaster have been churning out their unique and unholy blend of extreme metal, establishing themselves as one of the most enduring forces in the German black/thrash scene. Founded in Koblenz by guitarist and mastermind Infernal (Markus Kuschke), the band emerged from the same fertile ground that spawned thrash titans Destruction, Kreator, and Sodom, taking direct inspiration from Destruction's classic track "Total Desaster" for their band name.
For over 35 years, Desaster have remained true to their vision of creating a symbiosis between the black, death, and thrash metal sounds of the late 80s. Drawing influence from legendary acts like Venom, Hellhammer, Mayhem, and the German thrash pioneers, they've forged a distinctive sound that combines crushing riffs, venomous vocals, and an unholy atmosphere that captures the essence of extreme metal's golden era.
The band's journey has been marked by both evolution and consistency. While their early releases like "A Touch of Medieval Darkness" (1996) and "Hellfire's Dominion" (1998) established their black metal credentials, subsequent albums have showcased their ability to incorporate diverse elements while maintaining their core identity. With vocalist Sataniac joining in 2002, Desaster found their definitive voice, leading to classic albums like "Divine Blasphemies" and "Angelwhore."
Now in 2025, Desaster return with their tenth studio album "Kill All Idols," marking a new chapter in their legendary career. As Infernal explains, while maintaining their classical black/thrash approach and epic elements, the album showcases greater diversity, with punk roots shining clearer than ever before. Recorded with live sound engineer Jan "Janosch" Gensheimer and mixed by Greg Wilkinson of Autopsy at Earhammer Studio, "Kill All Idols" represents both a culmination of their decades-long journey and a bold step forward.
