Slaughterday
Slaughterday emerged from Berlin in 2010 as the brainchild of Jens Finger and Bernd Reiners, both seasoned musicians already established in Germany's death metal underground through their work with Revel in Flesh. The duo's vision centered on revitalizing the classic Swedish death metal sound of the early 1990s while incorporating contemporary production values. Their initial demo recordings immediately showcased sophisticated songwriting capabilities and an instinctive understanding of melodic lead guitar work within brutal frameworks.
The debut full-length Laws of the Scythe arrived in 2013 through F.D.A. Records, instantly positioning Slaughterday as serious contenders in the old school death metal revival movement. Dan Swanö's production provided the eight tracks with characteristic clarity that perfectly balanced crushing riff structures against melodic interludes. Standout compositions like the title track and "Grave Worm" demonstrated the band's natural ability to craft memorable yet uncompromisingly aggressive material that honored their Swedish influences without resorting to mere imitation.
Nightmare Vortex (2015, F.D.A. Records) saw Slaughterday refining their formula of Swedish-inspired tremolo riffing and precise blast beat assaults. The collaboration with producer Kristian Kohlmannslehner at Kohlekeller Studio resulted in significantly more powerful sound production, bringing the band closer to the aesthetic territories of Entombed and Dismember. Tracks such as "Abysmal Decay" and "Orphan Lament" revealed increasing experimentation with atmospheric elements while maintaining their core brutality.
Ancient Death Triumph (2018, F.D.A. Records) represents the creative pinnacle of Slaughterday's evolution to date. The nine compositions successfully merged the raw energy of their Swedish predecessors with distinctive melodic sensibilities. Guest contributions from scene veterans like Rogga Johansson (Paganizer) underscored the recognition Slaughterday had earned within the international death metal community. The album achieved notable chart positions in German metal rankings, cementing the Berlin duo's reputation as one of Germany's most consistent death metal acts of the 2010s decade.
The duo maintained their rigorous work ethic, delivering their fourth full-length, Tyrants of Doom (2022, F.D.A. Records). This release further confirmed their mastery of the classic Swedish sound, continuing their thematic focus on horror and 'The Ancient Ones,' and solidifying their long-standing partnership with F.D.A. Records. Demonstrating consistent creative momentum, Slaughterday remains active both live and in the studio, exemplified by the recent release of the Terrified EP in 2025 and the anticipation for their upcoming full-length album, Dread Emperor, set for release on Testimony Records in 2026. The band continues to maintain a strong presence on European festival stages.
