Background information about 'Ravenous'
Somewhere between a crypt and a slaughterhouse, Slaughterday have carved out their own little kingdom of rot. "Ravenous" is the sound of a band that grew up on the filthiest corners of the death metal canon and decided that reverence was for cowards. Four tracks, roughly eighteen minutes, and not a single second wasted on pleasantries. The guitars are tuned so low they practically scrape the floor, the drums hammer away like a malfunctioning piston, and the vocals come crawling out of the speakers with genuine menace. It is ugly, it is primitive, and it is absolutely glorious.
What makes this EP stick is the songwriting underneath all that grime. "Crawling In Secrecy" shifts gears with a mid-tempo stomp that will have necks snapping in the front row, while "Abyss Of Namesless Fear" drags the listener down into a murky, doom-tinged crawl before the blastbeats kick the door back in. The closing cover of Acheron's "Ave Satanas" is a smart nod to the band's roots, delivered with enough conviction to make it their own. Slaughterday are not reinventing the wheel here, and they clearly could not care less. They are too busy having a great time desecrating it.
