This monumental anthology serves as the definitive collection of Austere's complete catalogue before their highly anticipated third full-length release. "Towards The Great Unknown" brings together the Australian depressive black metal duo's entire discography in one essential package, spanning their journey from 2007 to 2009. The collection includes their debut "Withering Illusions and Desolation" (2007), contributions to split releases with Lyrinx and Isolation, and their refined sophomore effort "To Lay like Old Ashes" (2009). What makes this release particularly special are the two previously unreleased re-imagined tracks "This Dreadful Emptiness" and "Unending Night", freshly produced at Équinoxe Studios in Wollongong.

Austere emerged from the collaboration between multi-instrumentalist Desolate (Mitchell Keepin) and drummer/keyboardist Sorrow (Tim Yatras) in 2005, carving their own dark path through the depressive black metal landscape. Their signature sound combines frost-bitten guitars with haunting high-pitched screams and wails, establishing them as torchbearers in a genre pioneered by Norwegian acts like Strid and Silencer. Despite going on hiatus after building a substantial following, their 2021 return has been met with tremendous excitement from fans worldwide.
