Background information about 'The 1986 Doink City Massacre'

Bonginator crash into the room like a cartoon anvil with "The 1986 Doink City Massacre", and the debut EP does not bother with a polite introduction. The Massachusetts crew, founded by frontman Erik Thorstenn back in 2022, play what they proudly call "two-stepping neon weed death" — old school death metal riffs dragged through caveman grooves, 90s Colombian drum lunacy and a shameless love for 80s horror and action flicks. It is loud, it is silly in the best possible way, and it hits like a brick to the teeth.

The seven tracks here never sit still. "Intro" sets the mood before "The Doinkinite" and "The Bonginators" start swinging, and "Interdoob" proves the band knows exactly how funny a well-placed breather can be. "War; On Drugs" and "Dank Nugulus" are pure riff worship with a grin, while the bonus cut "Blood Diner" shows how far the group has already pushed its own sound. There is real craft under the jokes: the songwriting is sharp, the production is filthy in the right places, and the whole thing hints at a bigger storyline — something about stoners versus aliens, apparently a movie waiting to happen. Bonginator are not trying to reinvent death metal. They are simply having more fun with it than almost anyone else right now.
