Some debuts don't knock politely — they kick the door off its hinges and leave the smell of rot behind. Pungent Stench did exactly that in 1990 with "For God Your Soul... for Me Your Flesh", and hearing it again, remastered and ugly as ever, is like being slapped awake. This is Death Metal with Grindcore's filthy fingerprints all over it: no polish, no mercy, no interest whatsoever in being tasteful. Austria's finest deviants understood something that a lot of their peers forgot — that extremity works best when it's genuinely unpleasant, and that a riff can be both bone-simple and impossible to shake.

Listen to "A Small Lunch" or "Blood, Pus and Gastric Juice" and you'll hear exactly what made this record such a nasty little landmark. Sludge-drenched doom passages drag you down into the muck, then the whole thing lurches into savage speed without warning, the bass rumbling underneath like something alive and hungry. There's D-Beat in the DNA, Thrash in the attack, and a morbid sense of humour smeared across the whole thing — but make no mistake, this was never a joke band. That sick grin just made the filth hit harder. The remaster sharpens the blades without sanding off the rust, which is precisely how it should be done.

This expanded double CD edition pairs the remastered classic with a second disc of rough mixes and a blistering live set recorded in Vienna in May 1990 — raw, sweaty and gloriously unhinged. For anyone who worships at the altar of early extreme metal, this is essential.
